Portfolio Preparation and 21st Annual Senior Show
This show is a JURIED exhibition that showcases artwork from Art 3, Art 4 and advanced level photo classes at the Board of Education. There is a reception in April that celebrates the artwork chosen, recognizes outstanding student artists with prizes and scholarships, and allows one student/artist representative from each high school (chosen by each school's art teacher) to present their own body of work during the reception.
Because this is a JURIED show, the artwork you submit may not get chosen to be in the show. However, EVERYONE in Art 3 and Art 4 at Howard is required to submit 4 pieces and their statements. The number of entries juried into the show is dictated by the gallery size: 40 pieces (county-wide)for the Portfolio Preparation show and 90 pieces (county wide) for the Senior Show. The number of pieces per school will be based on a percentage of the total entries. Each school will be allotted that percentage of the individual school’s total entries.
DEADLINE:
On-line applications need to be submitted via Google Docs and student jpegs due to Ms. Brennan no later than March 3, 2011. Applications that are not complete or are late will not be considered.

Oil Painting 101 - Figs, Lemons, Poblano Peppers...OH MY!!
Okay. Anyone that has painted with oils know it can be a little cumbersome and difficult to grasp at first. Oil paints are messy, they're stinky, you can't just wash it off your hands with water, oil paintings take forever to dry, and sometimes you just end up mixing mud (frustrating!!). Students in Art 3 started painting with oils today and check out the results (slideshow below). For most of the students, these were their FIRST oil paintings ever. Wow. I even made it MORE challenging for them in that 1) they had to stand and paint (no sitting!) 2) they had to use ONE flat brush and they only had about 45 minutes of class time to get the majority of the painting finished.

Join Flickr by FRIDAY!!!
1. Use the link on the right (below, right - under LINKS) to go to Flickr and choose "create an account". This is done through YAHOO. If you already have a YAHOO account, you don't have to make another one.
2. Once you create a Flickr account, create a recognizable name (i.e. MBrennan - not IHeartJustinBieber78).
3. Search for "Howard High School Art 3" in groups. This is an invite only group. People can see our discussion and images BUT they cannot comment.
4. Send a request to join the group. After I clear you as a member, post a message to the discussion I started. When you have your message posted, you will get the 25 points for the assignment.
Flickr is where you will be uploading images of your artwork for the year for critiques and feedback. It will often be how you "turn" artworks in. We'll be able to comment, create discussions, and leave feedback for each other. Many of you in photography already post on Flickr. Use the account you already have.
